Dress Hats

Dress Hat’s come in a variety of shapes and sizes it all depends on how you style it. Typically when you think of a dress hat first thing that comes to mind is a Fedora or maybe even a Derby or a Homburg. In the 1940s and 1950s, famous entertainers like Humphrey Bogart and Frank Sinatra made the fedora hat part of their film and stage repertoire. Frank Sinatra's death in 1998 raised interest in the short-brimmed fedoras worn by the Voice. Humphrey Bogart popularized the fedora in well known films such as Casablanca, to the point that a type of fedora was named after his particular style. Tops hats served as declaration of respectability and class for decades, as well as playing a prominent role in presidential inaugurations up until President Johnson choose not to continue with the tradition. Up to 1960, men wore dress hats as a matter of standard and respectability. After bottoming out in the 1960s, felt hats with snap brims made a comeback in the early 1980s, when actor Harrison Ford, playing Indiana Jones, wore one in "Raiders of the Lost Ark". The fedoras used in Raiders of the Lost Ark were all reportedly supplied by Herbert Johnson based on a Brazilian line of hats. The brim was wide, with a tall untapered crown, very little rounding at the top, and a tight high pinch and center dent.
